The sun was setting in the western sky and spilling golden light across the winter countryside. The shadows were deep and mysterious. I was driving and tapping my fingers on the steering wheel in time to one of Keith Green‘s songs that was pouring out of the speakers.
These days I often run out of words between family and church, work and writing, studying and sleeping. I start to panic and think, “I need to write something!”
Driving through the countryside near my home and listening to the words of a man who lived for God and died when he wasn’t much older than I am now … that brings life back into perspective. I’m a scribbler, but my life isn’t about words. It’s about God.
You take the world by surprise
They won’t believe their eyes
When You come through the skies …
(Keith Green)
Does anyone else my age listen to Keith Green’s songs now? I grew up listening to his songs! He said, “Life is short. Make it count.” Today I’m making life count by editing “The Abolitionist” while listening to “So You Wanna Go Back to Egypt” today! How do you make life count today?

I’m not quite your age – but I do listen to Keith Green.
Yay! Do you have a favourite song … ? Have a lovely weekend!
This Monday I had Keith Green on the iPod and my chore list in hand. I have so many favorites . . . Run to the End of the Highway, The Victor, There is a Redeemer, You Love the World (and You’ve Avoiding Me), among others.
How nice that you have Keith Gree on your iPod! I was listening to him again in the car this morning!
I remember the first time I REALLY understood “You Love the World (and You’re Avoiding Me)” – I think I was 12 or so. It’s still convicting! “The Sheep and the Goats” is one that always makes me stop and think too.
Daniel burned us a CD of Keith Green while he and my sister were courting.. And we have a few casette tapes of him too, so yes, we listen to his music
Aww … I didn’t know Daniel did that, but it’s cute!
Yep, my brother is a big fan and we often have Keith Green blaring! =)
Nice post!
I’m 26…and I listen to Keith Green. His songs are so heartfelt. I read “No Compromise: The Life Story of Keith Green” last year, and it really touched my heart. Keith Green was sold out for Jesus, his passion and love for the Lord was convicting and inspiring. It’s one of my top 10 favorite books.
